I first learned a bit about Mitt Romney is this Atlantic Monthly piece. I liked what I read, having known literally nothing about him prior. In particular, he understands that one must govern for measurable results. Can it be done? Dunno, government by its nature does not reward high performance.
I’d like to see him try. He has a squeaky-clean image, but a person of his intelligence knows that sweetness and light is necessary but not sufficient.
I think he could quickly become a front-runner, based on his personality. Thing is, most people don’t know who he is. Interesting to see that he barely places on Patrick Ruffini’s straw poll. Let’s call him the connoisseur’s choice, for now.
The reason I bring this up is that he has announced that he will not be seeking re-election as governor...which most assume is a sign for prez ambitions in 2008.
