I currently reside in the Russian Hill neighborhood of San Francisco, and for work I very much enjoy building web applications for a design firm here in the city.
My background is in Physics and Philosophy, having graduated Magna Cum Laude from Boston University, back in the pre-dot-com days.
I think I am one of the few people in this area that has worked happily and steadily through the ups and downs of the tech boom. I didn’t get rich but I didn’t lose my shirt either. The dot.com explosion was a historic one, and it was great to witness.
I recently stepped into the waters of the blogging world, by observing how well blogs have served to democratize the reporting process.
My primary motivation is that I would like to play some role in promoting a contrarian view in a very liberal town. The political homogeneity and intolerance that I perceive in SF really bother me, personally, so this gives me a good outlet.
It is also a real test to find out if my ideas have merit. Am I an idealist? An ideologue?
In my spare time, I participate in triathlons for the same reasons that I blog (turns out that SF is pretty good for both!). I know full well that there are people who are vastly more qualified to do this, who commit themselves entirely, and with whom I can’t compete.
But at the same time, very few people even try. So if I can participate and have a small amount of success in the free market of ideas, well, that’s an accomplishment.
